Student health care will go through changes at the beginning of 2021 when The Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) (in Finnish YTHS) will begin to provide services also for students of polytechnic universities (like Laurea). These changes will only affect degree students and not exchange students.
FSHS is an foundation that provides general, mental and oral health services for students of higher education. They have specialised in student issues and also have students representatives in their decision making bodies.
Starting 2021 these services are for all degree students (so not exchange students). Students must pay an healthcare fee of around 74-77 euros per study year but the use of these services is otherwise free of charge. You will be able to access these services at FSHS health centres anywhere in Finland regardless of where you live.
There is still open questions about what services will be provided at which area. The Student Union is keeping close watch on the process to ensure best possible services for our students. If you have any questions please contact board member Taru Salovaara (taru[at]laureamko.fi) or our advocacy specialist Ada Saarinen (ada[at]laureamko.fi).
