Laurea University of Applied Sciences’ student union, Laureamko, is nominating Iiris Aunio for a seat on the board of the National Union of Student Unions in Finland (SAMOK) for the year 2027.
SAMOK is a national student advocacy organization whose goal is to improve the status of students in society and support student unions across Finland.
Aunio is a second-year social services student at Laurea’s online campus. This year, she has served as vice chair of the Laureamko board, with responsibility for the student union’s advocacy team and the 30th anniversary celebrations. Previously, Aunio served as a member of the Laureamko board, responsible for marketing and communications, as well as a tutor.
On the SAMOK Board, Aunio is particularly interested in developing student well-being services and influencing them.
“I thank Laureamko for their trust and for this opportunity. The changes to student well-being services and the restructuring negotiations at the FSHS are causing concern regarding students’ daily lives and future. At SAMOK, I want to amplify the students’ voice in the upcoming parliamentary elections and in other decisions affecting them,” Aunio says.
