What do the groups do?
In the Working-life steering groups, students can share their own experiences and those of their peers, as well as feedback on their degree programs. In addition, student representatives will have the opportunity to hear the views of working life representatives on the development of degrees.
The Development Group of the pedagogy and curriculum reform is responsible for developing the curriculum reform in accordance with Laurea’s strategy at the Laurea level. Next year, the idea is to develop Laurea’s guidance services with a student-centred focus and to ensure that student experiences are of a consistent quality.
Student Wellbeing Development Group is responsible for monitoring and assessing student well-being and ability to study and supports their promotion. The group meets when necessary, approximately 6-8 times throughout the year. Please, note that the Group meets only during the Office Hours (8.00-16.00).
The Board of Examiners deals with requests for corrections relating to the assessment of academic performance. For the purposes of this assessment, academic performance means course/project performance, thesis, internship and approved performance. The role of student representatives is to ensure that the student voice is heard in the decision-making process. The Board of Examiners is appointed by the Laurea Board of Directors. It is chaired by a person appointed by the Rector, who must be a lecturer or senior lecturer, and consists of one member of teaching staff and one student. Section 19 of the Universities of Applied Sciences Act regulates the establishment, membership and role of the Board of Examiners.
Acting as a student representative
Applicants are required to commit to communicating with the student union and participating in student representative training. Student representatives are expected to be active in gathering and utilizing opportunities to bring student feedback to the forefront. It is considered an advantage if the applicant is able to commit to the group’s activities for the entire calendar year. Membership in the student union is also considered an advantage. We hope that applicants have a genuine interest in the group’s topic and are motivated to take on the task. The names and email addresses of those selected will be published on the Laureamko website.
You can apply for credits for the skills you have acquired, which you can include in your degree as elective courses or complete as so-called extra-curricular studies. You can read more about credits for active participation, how to apply for them, and the requirements on our website. Learning and development are supported by the training courses offered by Laureamko, which provide additional content for the portfolio required to apply for credits.
